If it has been a few years — or a lot more than a few — this is the appointment to book. We give it a full hour because there is usually more to look at, and rushing it helps nobody.

However long it has been, we have seen it before. You will not be told off, and you will not be made to feel embarrassed about the state of your teeth.
This is our most booked first visit, and most of our long-term patients started here. That is not an accident. People who have been avoiding the dentist usually have the most going on, and they are the ones who benefit most from someone taking the time to look properly.
An hour sounds like a lot for a check-up. It is deliberate. A rushed twenty-minute look at a mouth that has not been seen in six years will miss things, and missing things is how people end up back in pain three months later.
What happens at this appointment

We find out what has been going on
Your dental history, anything that hurts, anything you have noticed, and anything you are worried about. If there is a reason you stopped going, that is useful for us to know.

A full examination
Teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues — including a check of the areas people never think about. This is the part that takes the time.

X-rays and photographs
X-rays show us what is happening between and beneath the teeth, where the eye cannot reach. The photographs mean you get to see what we are seeing.

A professional clean
A proper scale and clean as part of the same appointment, so you leave feeling like something has actually been done.

We tell you where you stand
Plainly, without jargon and without a lecture. You will know what is urgent, what can wait, and what your next step is.

Common questions
It has been years. Are you going to give me a hard time? +
No. People stop going to the dentist for all sorts of reasons — cost, fear, time, a bad experience. None of them are worth a lecture, and a lecture would not fix your teeth anyway.
Why is this an hour when a check-up is usually much shorter? +
Because a short appointment is fine for someone who has been every six months, and not fine for someone who has not been in years. The extra time is what stops things being missed.
Will I get a full treatment plan at this appointment? +
You will leave knowing where you stand and what your next step is. If the treatment is more involved, we would rather book you back in and go through your options and costs properly than rush it in the last five minutes.
What if you find something serious? +
We tell you straight away, explain what it means, and tell you how urgent it is. Knowing is always better than not knowing, and most things are more fixable than people fear.
Can I claim this on my health fund? +
Yes, and we claim on the spot through HICAPS so you only pay the gap. We are preferred providers with HCF, Defence Health, HIF and nib.
